@raphaelhudson "repeated minor inflammation after a big sing is not the same thing."..I think we're on the same page here actually..Thats the kind of thing I'm referring to.repeated(=chronic) .."repeated minor inflammation" 4 nights out of five.. (It could easily have been luck of the draw too..or he was a big smoker)........but anyway, one could never fault a singer to write their name in history in such a manner, and in so glorious a way as ETTORE BASTIANINI..

@raphaelhudson I'm sorry, its been a while since I heard that on the radio..and the cancer specialist on the panel was talking about any kind of chronic inflammation, not remotely concerning Ettore Bastianini's cause of death.Maybe I was not clear there. So, yes, pure speculation on my part. but..Singing an opera.."costs"..call it inflammation or dont..and recovery periods are scheduled in..Singing 4 and 5 a week, and such..and singing his repertoire in large rooms..one just has to wonder?

why is the clip one third silence? why not just make a shorter clip? there's nothing wrong with a short clip.

@dxhtz Do you have any source for that claim re chronic inflammation? Maybe you mean nodules? Anyway there is no way you could sing professionally with chronic inflammation of the chords. What they mean there is the way your voice is after a big night on the drink. repeated minor inflammation after a big sing is not the same thing.

I like to think I am an ok looking guy, but he looks like I would have wanted to grow up to look and had the voice (speaking and singing) I would have loved to have had.
Riposi in pace, Maestro.

impressionante il colore ed il timbro.
Si, si sento che il fiato e poco corto, ma che meraviglia.

@jennygirl709Lanza was a tenor. I also like Lanza, but he is not in the class of Bastianini, baritone
-
Very good, but no offence - Mario Lanza is still THE MAN!!!

listen to all that "wild & nasty" sound quality like an "animal"....all great singers of the past have it......
As a voice student......I am listen to these "old great singers"....for that quality......"the animal spirit"
GOD, the IMPULSE to sing in such a state of illness, I often think of him and sense how incredibly, unbelievably, excruciatingly difficult it must have been for him to endure his cancer,,, there is a place in heaven for so brave a SOUL, GOD BLESS YOU ETTORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm crying for you, the pain is great!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a cancer survivor and former professional singer. (One had nothing to do with the other:).) But I can only imagine Bastianini's emotional and physical ordeals as a world-class baritone with an extraordinary voice AND laryngeal malignancy. He sounds a little rough and short of breath here, but still damn good. God bless Bastianini, and may he rest in peace:) --
