Narrow gauge Garratts did not run on the original Victorian Railways Ferntree Gully to Gembrook 'Puffing Billy' railway. Garratt G42 which had been used on two of the four narrow gauge 2ft 6in lines in Victoria, was saved from the scrappers by the originally formed group to save part of the line to Gembrook. This group was the 'Puffing Billy Preservation Society'. Garratt G42 thus was transported
to Belgrave by rail in three main sections being the front and rear units and the boiler, from where it had been stored. It was reassembled at Belgrave before being towed by N6 to the museum site at Menzies Creek to become an exibit in the now closed Puffing Billy Railway Museum situated there. Belgrave had become the end of the electrified suburban railway after its extension from FernTreeGully. These are some views of the train on the way to that location. Before arrival, 6A ran low on water and had to leave its train down the line and run to Menzies Creek for water before returning to finish the job.
