After a really tough year, our little family took off recently for some much needed time away in a small fishing village on the rugged southern coast of Victoria. The year had been a big one for challenges and heartache. The lessons in such challenges are always about the preciousness of life ~ INCLUDING the life of fuzzies! After our struggles, the preciousness of these family members takes on a whole new level of meaning.....
What we didn't understand at the time was that this little interlude and family time together after our brutal year, would be our last trip ever.
....After only a few short weeks of being home, our beautiful big black dog took ill and had to be put to sleep. She was the last of our Newfoundland clan - her dad died of bloat, her mum got bitten by a snake, and her sister also died of bloat. Her cousin Skip died of kidney failure, so we lost five beautiful dogs in five years. I naively assumed we would be spared a harsh ending in contrast to the way the other dogs died. Zo Zo deserved that. But endings creep up on you when you least expect them. And in ways you never see coming.
This photo montage is my tribute to the beautiful Black Beauty and to our beautiful family as it was for those few precious years.
