if you like scuds you should try fishing a pink scud 5-10" under a prince nymph
we call it eggs and bacon and it absolutely kills big rainbows

All around a well-informed tie and good background information on why you use the techniques you do to arrive at this excellent pattern. If I can pass along one suggestion to your camera man, it is to frame more of the fly and less of the vice and background. Some details on the fly are not as clear by being back so far. Other tiers on Youtube are very tight on the fly so we can see those details. Thanks for keeping this in mind

And I thought scuds were just for missiles---ha ha ha

Are you sure you don't need eye protection when using that UV light? I don't mena to be an alarmist, but many such lights use wavelengths which can damage the retina!

Hi,watched video on epoxy scud. You used a UV light, where can I buy one? Thanks,Rayrockingr

If you tie the weight on top of the hook, the fly will turn over when presented. With this pattern you are presenting the scud upside down,

Don't get me wrong, I love heavy ass flies. Especially exploring patterns like scuds. But an ultraviolet light and epoxy out of giant syringe seems like a pain. Haha. Kinda takes the romanticism out of naturals. But hey, I'm guilty of loading on the flash 9 times outa 10.

Rainy's makes a scud out of stretch tubing and they are great. The trick is keeping the spacing even enough to be able to pick the dubbing out. The other great advantage of this scud is its weight.
