For the second day in a row, a group of local mothers from South Los Angeles gathered in front of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 18 (IBEW) to protest an attack campaign using automated and live phone calls to criticize 8th District Councilmember Bernard Parks. With signs reading 'Durazo and D'Arcy stop lying about Bernard Parks during Black History Month,' the group is criticizing union leaders of the IBEW Local 18, the union that represents thousands of employees at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and AFL-CIO, who they believe are behind the attack campaign. The phone calls claim that Parks, former L.A.P.D. police chief, is affiliated with gang members and can't be trusted. The mothers, many of whom have sons who are former gang members who are currently relying on city, county, and state programs for employment training programs are offended at the characterization of Parks' via unsolicited phone calls to their homes and would rather see the DWP's union invest its money back into the community.

"It's Black History Month for crying out loud," exclaimed Michelle Moore. "Why are these unions trying to tear down black leaders and exploit our sons in the process? Don't they understand that our sons are the same people they're trying tear down the Councilmember with? That our sons are not pawns to be used negatively for someone's campaign? Even more important is the fact that none of these same unions are trying to hire the black men that they are putting down and labeling as gang members. This is ridiculous! Who are they going to go after next?"

  • @Superseadragon, It's not impossible...it's gonna be HARD as hell though. MOST Black People in Amerikkka DO NOT understand Racism/White Supremacy. Most Black People believe in a white Jesus/God and subconsciously see white people as their saviors "Lawd save me" ,"Mr. Willy give me a job". This is the main reason why it's hard to get them to listen to reason. We've been taught that suffering is part of our existence and will be this until we die. The Black Preacher teaches this every Sunday!

  • @lildeac2 You ain't never lied. California has "become" very racist. It wasn't like this growing up. The mexicans are getting all the minimum wage jobs that our youth can have. They are literally trying to push blacks back to the South... as if we were not here long before they started to migrate here. Mexicans feel that this is their land that they lost during the Mexican war and come to reclaim it. I feel for the black youth here in Los Angeles. It's nothing nice.

  • @Wisebrother78 Impossible! Too much of a culture of poverty instead of empowerment. anytime I say what you say, they say I'm radical. Yeah because I advocate self employment. So we need more pain, more tea party rallies, and more budget cuts. Once the damn negroes get it through their stupid heads that we have no friends, only then will they listen to us and build. Black First!

  • @Superseadragon, I'd rather have Black Men/women have some god damn self respect! None of which will be obtained by begging!!! African Americans don't have shit now cuz all we know how to do is beg and feel sorry for ourselves. The first step to self-respect is to gain knowledge of self! Second step is to organize! Third step is put the plan into play and build WITHOUT THE AID OF WHITE PEOPLE! Can you dig It?

  • @Wisebrother78 Would you rather have Black men beg for jobs, or rob you? I pick jobs. When they start thinking of having more businesses, then they won't be bugging Whitey too much.

  • Instead of begging Whitey for his jobs...go make you own jobs!

  • nepotism seems to pay off in the US.

  • I thought California was tolerant and gave everyone opportunities. It just proves that California is just as racist as the south
