The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, located in Alamosa, CO, recently added the City of New Orleans observation club car "Mardi Gras" to its excursion trains. The car has been restored to its original Illinois Central orange and brown liverey, and railroad president Ed Ellis liked it so much that he painted the entire train to match. It makes a great looking train (except that it clashes with the red diesels (:-)).

Mr. Ellis also wrote and sings a new verse to the song "Riding on the City of New Orleans", a recording of which is available to those who ride the "Mardi Gras." Presented here are a few scenes featuring the original City of New Orleans train and the Mardi Gras, set to Ellis' verse.

  • "club girls" - one is our Grandaughter - and if not mistaken the femaile voice in the song is her. if not I can wish it so...thank you for the smile across our faces to see her. Can't wait until we can ride her train.

  • @granma211 Glad you enjoyed it, comments like this make my efforts worthwhile. Your granddaughter and other members of the crew did a great job and made it a truly first class experience.

  • Very nice. So now you have the Ellis Family permission!

  • @eee525 Thank you sir, glad you enjoyed it. You run a great train with good food and good entertainment. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to ride it. Make sure the club car girls see this since they are both in it (;-).
