Elie and his father became willing, pro-Nazi collaborators when they freely chose in Jan 1945 to go west from Auschwitz rather than be "liberated" by the Soviets whom everyone knew were advancing on Auschwitz. See Night, Bantam books edition, page 77.

Instead of being "liberated" by the Soviets so that he could at least tell the world about the "horrors" of Auschwitz, Elie and his father, and tens of thousands of other Jews CHOSE instead to help the Nazis during the final months of the war.

the reason here dumbell is 3 fold... either go with the rest of the people and leave the hell hole and"maybe"survive.....remain at Auschwitz and risk being eliminated....and, just because the soviets were on the way did not mean survival....in Auschwitz death came at any moment so the choice to many was leave with everyone else and hope to stay alive..people were expecting to be killed anyway but due to the fact the nazi's were not shooting them gave a glimmer of hope towards staying alive....!!

People, including many tens of thousands of Jews, were NOT expecting to be killed by the Nazis when they went west with the Nazis. They knew the Nazis were NOT mass murderers--but they knew the Soviets were. A third choice was to simply hide out somewhere but no one seems to have chosen that option.

The Nazis really were the Good Guys who saved western civilization--but, of course, the Jews had no interest in telling that TRUTH after the war after Germany had been defeated. Horror sells!

also the washington memorial has million upon million of pages etc re the holocaust!!! if you cannot take the word of actual SS officers and survivors of these places of hell then there is no point in discussing this topic..... just think about how many mass graves have been discovered in the ukraine to date, 850 = approx 1.5 million men, women and innocent children.... the elite of the 3rd reich were nothing more than barbaric filth.......the mind boggles at their inhumanity

Although there were tens of thousands of corpses in the camps at the end of the war, and more than a thousand were examined by forensic pathologists--there is not even one autopsy report to show anyone was ever killed with poison gas or any other poison by the Nazis.

The millions of documents actually exonerate the Nazis--and not the other way around, and no documentary evidence that even anyone was ever killed in a gas chamber either.

the ss were responsible for the deaths of jews, prisoners of war, gypsies etc...if these people were'nt murdered as you say, then what happened to all the transports that arrived at the camp,?? also why kanada and all the peoples belongings?  ss oscar groening say's that it is all true and he witnessed it all and he is just one of many...i have read countless stories not only re Auschwitz but other death camps & i have seen einsatzkommando atrocities on video!! unspeakable horror.....

Unfortunately, Wiesel is not a brilliant showman/speaker but he is indeed a devoted humanitarian speaking out for all minorities and combating all forms of repression. The whole idea that idiots still post comments questioning the extermination of millions is just like the morons who claim slavery never happened and all things evil in history are simply elaborate jokes planned to fool poor unsuspecting Aryan children and plantation owners. Grow up! Those things unfortunately happened.

Actually, he is a scenery chewing hack as a showman -- but is very succesful at it. never underestimate the gullibility of the public.
