I think people need to stop getting confused between the Doctor title which is given to anyone holding a Doctor/Doctorate degree, like many college professors do, and the Doctor profession which is basically a physician.

Pharmacists are not clinicians. A doctor listens to and have your clinical history, he examines you, do the tests and investigations and tailors your treatment according to your needs. Under- or over-treatment can be harmful. A good doctor treats you as a person, not just a patient. That is where the science and art of medicine meet. Certain aspects of your health is beyond mere academic knowledge and the best medicine need not be the best for everyone. Only you and your doctor know.

It would be an interesting challenge to test working retail pharmacists and physicians about pharmacology and see who comes out on top. Sadly, I don't think most retail pharmacists retain their training and I think the doctors would win.

To an extent, all Pharmacy School programs are now PharmD programs. Any graduating Pharmacist within the past few years and later will now be a Doctor of Pharmacy.
