Living without TV for one week, could you do it? Twenty-six non-profits in Monterey joined our festival providing activities for children to do instead of watching tv?

  • whats funny is all you have to do is get rid of the tv in your house. easy peasy. worked for me.

  • When we proposed tv turnoff in 2002, people were really upset at the thought. people told us TV was saving their sanity, it was how they calmed down. Now people get it. But what I can't believe is how many people can only talk about tv. Its like tv shows are the only thing exciting enough in their lives to talk about. Also I hate it when people won't turn off their tv when I am visiting. Do you think tv is using cult indoctrination methods on its viewers?

  • I wouldn't call it "entertaining your self to death"

put it along the lines "The dumbing down of America" quote Rush limbaugh uses

Not only should we encourage people to watch less,, but to get outside even more. How FAT has America become..?

One final thought. The content on TV is filth, disgusting, and profane, and that's even during the "family viewing time".Encourage people to Get out, Meet Their neighbor.

  • your right, check out my other posts especially the one on culture, kind of sums up my social philosophy. My next post is going to be on media literacy. People cannot read and write video, so they fall prey to all the powerful methods of manipulation this new medium possesses. We threw a TV turnoff festival in 2002, no one understood what we were doing at the time. Now people are finally catching on. All we have to spend is time, people have to value their time to value their lives.

  • Tv was not created for the sole purpose of providing information. Many watch for TV for entertainment also.

Who has the right to tell any TV watcher.."You're watching TOO much TV", except a parent to a child.

I know folks that would rather unwind watching TV, than unwind at the bottom of an alcoholic beverage

  • tv is an addiction and we thought everyone should know that the avg. addict will have watched 9 years of tv by the time they are 65 yr. It wasn't telling anyone to do anything, it was just trying to raise the level of awareness by identfying consequences they have not considered. But I do believe the world is entertaining itself to death.

  • this was excellent. thankyou.

  • Excellent! Kalle Lasn would be proud of the strides you have taken to promote thinking outside and beyond the tube. My family and I got rid of our television about a year ago. Once in a while we record Jeopardy on my computer [I edit out the commercials before we watch it]. :)

  • i dont watch tv for 1 year now...i dont miss it even a second... on contrary i go more in nature ,read more, playing guitar more and drawing more... tv just makes u dull..who thinks otherwise..exactly ! :)
