Aboriginal women digging for honey ants in central Australia. Honey Ants are an awesome delicacy by the Warlpiri people for their sweet taste. The ants have a small yellow stripe on their backs and dig deep underground tunnels in areas where mulga trees grow. The ants, full of nectar, hang from the ceilings of the underground chambers.

Unfortunately the government plans to dump radioactive waste "In the middle of nowhere" which could have a harmful effect on the Warlpiri traditional diet and way of life.

  • @tvmalk bees do the same thing they ferment the nectar in their guts to make it honey just like the ants the only difference is the ants keep it in them while the bees store them in hexagonal holes

  • @Deretythe So this is like eating, vomiting, having someone else eat your vomit, then them eating dead animal juice, then having people vomit into their mouth, then having someone else eat that scrumptious concoction?

  • @tvmalk to be fair, the production of actual honey isn't that much more appetizing - it's vomited up by bees after their digestive tract processes nectar.

  • If you knew what was actually in those ants, you would've been sick to your stomach the whole time. The honey ants have a combination of dead bug juice, ant spit, and water. The spit is because when an ant has too much water, it contributes by adding spit to the honey pot ants.

  • ....... i fucking hate their noses :S......

  • I'm sure that's not what it said but it looked like it said "In the early days we lived with our bush fucker."

  • tbh that big transparent bulb of honey does look tasty...actually made my mouth water o.O

  • Insect juice and nectar. Yummy.

  • im thirsty now :/

  • They take great joy in small things, the Aboriginese.
