A while ago, I posted a video of a very short sponge ball routine I was working on, for a conference in which I was invited to give a talk about the science of magic. This is the video of the actual performance during the conference.

A few notes: the main goal for this routine was to introduce a bit of magic to the audience that would allow to transition to the main topic, which was the control of attention from a neuroscience point of view. The whole talk lasted only 8 minutes, so the magic had to be really quick, to the point, and hopefully impactful.

I think this worked quite well, considering the limitations I had, although obviously it was the first time I performed it for a live audience, so if I were to keep this in my repertoire, it would certainly get better and smoother. The pacing of it, especially, needs to be improved to let each effect sink in.

  • Well done! You sound a bit like Tommy Wonder, one of my favourite magicians.

  • @MimicMyMotions Thank you very much! Tommy is a big inspiration for me, so I take that as a great compliment!

  • Good job!

  • @unmungo Only just got round to watching it there; truly intriguing, very well done!

  • @colinhasmagicskillz Thank you very much! They are still editing it, but I will happily link to it from here once it's online. It will sadly be edited down to less than 5 minutes, from the original 8 or so, so I'm not sure how clear the end result will be... But thanks for your interest. I have a much longer (30 min) similar lecture online if you are interested...

  • Very nice indeed! I like your presentation style in general, perhaps we could see the whole talk? It sounds interesting
