How to Install RAM and a Hard Drive in a Gateway Laptop

I install RAM (DDR 333MHz) and a Hard drive( 2.5inch IDE OR EIDE) in a Gateway laptop.

I was told that if the hard drive was missing that when you turn it on it would read no hard drive found or something to that effect. Not operating system not found. Is that true?

I have a question,

I sold a gateway laptop cause it was reading operating system not found.

Now the guy who bought it is saying that the 320 hard drive was not in it.

I dont know what the laptop would read if it didnt have a hard drive in it. would it do anything at all? all I know is that it just wouldnt get passed the error message.

also i tried installing the cd. it would take cd 1 ask for cd 2 and not get any futher than that.

thanks for the video, I am about to upgrade my ram on my gateway 6705, not exactly the same but close. I just needed to see how its done before I do it. my biggest question was where the memory cover was and now I know the difference between hard drive and memory cover : ]

What I ws trying to say is that I think this guy took the hard drive out and is trying to say it was received without one.
