Zino Francescatti (1902-1991) plays Prokofiev Violin Concerto No 2 for violin and orchestra in G minor. New York Philarmonic Orchestra conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos. I. Allegro Moderato Recorded on October 27 1952
I have never liked this piece, finding it cheap, trashy, and insincere; it certainly pales beside Prokofiev's magnificent Violin Concerto No. 1! However, Francescatti is such a magnificent advocate for it, he almost convinces me. What a great violinist, and Mitropoulos is a marvelous conductor!
This man played such a wide range of composers and pieces with virtuosity--he seemed to have no limitations. This is utterly stunning! I have quite a few of his recordings but not this!
Thank you very much for this recording of one of my favorite concertos. It will be my first time to hear it, but I know just by listening to the first few bars that this will be a fabulous twenty five minutes!
@billyguns2 How can music sound insincere?
