    To answer your question,

I once played with and was tutored by the late Professor Hargreaves (who wanted me on the 'solo desk' with the now dissolved Sunlife - "Stanshawe band of Bristol".

Unfortunately, prior to this engagemnet, I broke my jaw in an accident, so I could no longer play as I once did.

    Anyway, no matter.

My heart is always with the Brass Band fraternity.

    All the Best to you.

    John

  • I have some Sunlife recordings. Their Bliss Belmont Variations is a gem.

  • Thanks for these absolute gems.

As a cornetist myself, it would be great to see the front of the band of occasion :-)

Please post more if you can.

    Brilliant!

    John

  • Glad you like them. I've posted all the videos I have (I think!!) but will continue adding when I can. There will be more Oldham music centre performances as the year progresses and I will continue to film at next year's Whit. Thanks for you kind comments. Who do you play with?

  • I've been watching all the old videos you've posted from the whits - fantastic, thanks for posting them.

  • Glad you like them. I lived in Dobcross in the early 80s and have now lived in Delph for 18 years so Whit Friday is something of an annual ritual!!

  • Great performance of the The President.

Army of the Nile was also sounding exceptional. I especially enjoyed the low brass

  • William German I think :)

  • Great stuff listening to these bands, look out for the bands doing the Tameside area as well this year, some good stuff even from the lower sections, third and fourth. Darwen Brass are doing well and competing again, fourth section champions.

  • Just hearing this band for the first time.

    AMAZING!!! Thanks for showing.

  • Yeah, they made airplanes dring the war.

  • Was this company once known as Fairey Aviation?

  • A bunch of fairies! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Bet you haven't heard THAT one before!!! HAHAHA!! SORRY...! ;)

  • I can't remeber who is the composer of this great march... can someone tell me ? THANKS

  • Great to see some rare video footage of the best bass section ever to have existed. Nothing comes close nowadays. They even sound fab on my tinny laptop! Whatever happened to Gareth Johnson? What a player! He and Geoff Harrop were the foundation of that glorious 90's Faireys sound. Their departure signalled the end of the golden era. I'd pay a lot of money to hear that section get back together for one concert.
