This is an Enertron Technologies screw based 22 watt compact fluorescent adapter ballast I also recently acquired. I found a couple of these left at LightBulbs Ect in Orange,CA and bought one, along with a blink happy Philips 22 watt PL-C compact fluorescent bulb to operate it with. I believe that these are still being made by the Enertron factory down in Vista, CA near Oceanside despite the fact that there isn't a very high demand for such an adapter anymore as they are now primarily succeeded by cheaper one-piece self ballasted compact fluorescent light bulbs. To date, this is the largest magnetically ballasted preheat type compact fluorescent lamp "system" I own. Enertron also makes these in lower wattages as well as center mounted and hardwired versions. The factory also produces commercial grade fluorescent lighting fixtures.

One can tell why magnetic CFL adapters have since fallen to the newer electronically ballasted spiral compact fluorescent bulbs; the physical shape meant that one had to remove the lamp harp to install the adapter and once installed, the width of the ballast unit made it difficult to re-attach the harp. The weight of the magnetic ballast used in the adapter also tended to make certain table lamps with narrow bases top heavy and unstable as well. The "offset" design of this model, though, did take care of one problem that the more common "center mounted" compact fluorescent adapter ballast had; mainly the length of the compact bulb itself; which, when added to the length of the ballast, would result in a physical height that would be too tall to fit under the harp of a table lamp in this case.

  • Awesome! I Have One Of These Balasts From Enertron, But These Bulbs Are Kind Of Hard To Get A Hold Of. I Know Ace Hardware Sells Them. I Hear These Have The Light Out Put Of A 100 Watt Incandescent Bulb.

PS: Is This Model "3900" Balast?

  • It's a 3900 as it shows on the unit.

There is also a 9 watt model (the 3600) and a 13 watt model (the 3800). I'll suggest you look at their website to figure out the rest.

The 22 watt PL type CFLs are a little hard to find. I don't see them at Home Depot normally but a few Ace Hardware stores in my area have them. 13 watt CFLs are pretty common in many stores and I sometimes find 9 watts at Home Depot.

Of course, there plenty of light bulbs of every type where I bought this.

  • How about someday some company making direct replacement for the lightbulb. Without all the problems CFL has with starting ,warm up time, light output ,enclosed fixture dangers and dimming problemswith different mfg dimmers.Have been watching the SLOW progress to make a direct bulb replacement. Now progress is being made to go directly to LED lights which are better but verry expensive.

  • It's kinda large for the standard socket... but will still outlast any modern CFL with an electronic ballast. Maybe even some linear.

  • you must like to talk about lightbulbs and when are you getting siren vids but cool vid sub
