The Spanish company Endesa plans to build a series of large hydroelectric dams on the wild rivers of Aysén province, in Chile's Patagonia region. Activists are organizing to stop the destruction of the rivers of Patagonia.
I visited the Baker for the first time in 2003and it is INCREDIBLE. The fishing is unbelievable and for the first few miles the water is perrfectly clear and it holds some high volume classIII water. A few miles down it joins the Rio Nef coming from the New glacier and in the summer it's milky blue to brown color. The river canyons here and holds a lot of real big class IV and up. Near Cochrane it flattens out. This dam project is a crying shame for Aisen. Please help stop it from happening.
Please help stop this... I first visited the Baker River and back in 1993, and I fell in love. This is one of the most amazing rivers in the world, and it is fed by Lago General Carrera, one of the most amzing lakes. This would be horrid. If people could see the beauty and wildness of this region of Chile nobody would want to harm it. This is a true paradise.
