The Nomadic Cafe is a three foot cube that opens to become a fully functional Kitchen-Cafe in the streets. Referencing sculptures of Tony Smith and Donald Judd with the interaction of Andrea Zittel and Rirkrit Tiravanija, the sculpture utilizes the formality of the gallery with the personality of the artists. • I think that if we wanted to make the art gallery a meeting place and transform the specific gallery then having dinner inside would be appropriate. At the time, we were trying to get "formal" art outside the gallery. At the same time the transformation of the work itself transformed the area it occupied into a more general social gathering space - not specifically about "art".

  • so the white cube of the art galleries transform into an open table? clever idea even thought it reminds me ' ikea '

i would call this work as an ikeatic one :)

the performance as dinner-time for friends would be more meaningful inside the art gallery instead of centre of the street.

It must be so cold outside, you look like you could hardly stand there!

  • thanks :)

  • nice work...very tongue and cheek commentary.
