"In 1989, I got a call from outstanding pianist Stephen Sedergreen (son of the legendary Australian pianist Bob Sedergreen - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=kjzVxlzKKkE) asking me to join a group of local musicians he put together for an episode of JAZZ AS NOW (ABC Television). Steve was playing in some of my Brazilian Jazz outfits at the time. He wanted a Brazilian song for the show and I came up with ESTAMOS AI but I've chosen to play it with a bateria instead of a drum kit. I brought the charts, a surdo, my repinique, chose a simple call/response for the bateria and a equally simple arrangement for the song (I can't recall if I actually created this arrangement or just borrowed it from some my old Milton Banana LPs!!) and I had a ball!!
Great to see, nearly 20 years later, Loch & Stevie going for it on this piece. Loch, a classy, talented musician, eventually became the sax/flute player of my (then) new Brazilian Jazz band Brazjaz, which in 1991 had its debut at the Limerick Arms, (then) Melbourne's most prestigious Jazz Club, located in South Melbourne".
