The "OASIS RESTAURANT" was originally built as a private residence in Raffles period style by the Dutch millionaire in 1928.
During World War II the last Governor General of the Dutch East Indies made this place his unofficial residence when regular Japanese bombings made him feel uneasy in the Koningsplein Palace(the present Merdeka Palace). After World War II the building became the official residence of the United States Naval Attache and in this beautiful house and garden the annual Marine Ball used to be held.
