A project for www.art-domain.co.uk

conversion of an old mangle into an etching press with just a few hand tools and a cheap bench drill. All parts were sourced off the Web except for timber. This is my starting point into the world of Intaglio etching, drypoint and printing. So follow my progress over the weeks and months to see the results of my labour!

  • Hi! thanks for your question!

From a pure mathematical point of view I don't know - but I would imagine it is a function of the surface area of the rollers and the applied torque?

I simply used intuitive considerations for determining the dimensions of the working parts!

You may be able to get advice from an emgineering company though?

  • wow! you could make alot of money selling these converted mangles. I waited months for an etching press to come up on ebay, and paid nearly £1000 for an old victorian press.

  • Do you know how much pressure a press needs to make an etching print?

  • nice video - cool tutorial
