What role has culture in education? Proyecto Andino de Tecnologias Campesinas (PRATEC) has worked with teacher and families in communities of the high Andes of Peru to develop culturally sensitive ways of educating children. Faced with high dropout and failure rates in the region, the ministry of education in Lima had nothing to lose by turning over more control of schooling in the region to the people with the most at stake. Aided by PRATEC, who brought together teachers and families from around the region to address common concerns, the school curriculum and calendar was adjusted to better fit the local culture and cosmovision. Video made by Maja Tillmann Salas of PRATEC. More information here: http://tvmultiversity.blogspot.com/2010/08/selection-of-films-from-pratec.html
Thank you, for a wonderful video. I am in a program called Andean Roots at The Evergreen State college and I just learned of PRATEC today. Looking forward to learning more about your organization.

Thanks for this video, we discussed PRATEC in one of my Anthropology classes and this was a great way to see it even more in depth than on paper!
