Soft drinks suck for three main reasons:

1) Phosphoric Acid, which has a pH of just over 2,
2) Diet sodas have aspartame (Nutrasweet), which metabolizes into Vitamin C (not bad), methyl alcohol (causes retinal damage, blindness, and other nerve damage), and formaldehyde (which preserves animal specimens, but also causes cancer),
3) Corn Syrup (which causes inflammation and, oddly, low blood sugar).

Soft drinks suck.

  • you waste to much of people's time with all your explaination's. you must be a teacher. couldn't even get to the end, you drove me nuts with the explaining everything.

  • *LOL* Sorry!

Well, at least now you know my obsessive personality.

  • Yeah, I actually don't really like Pop - (soda) anymore. I drink root beer once in a while but rarely anymore. I don't even really enjoy juice anymore. Way too sugary and syrupy. I can only stand drinking water most of the time anymore. It's not even a health thing anymore, it's just that other stuff doesn't quench my thirst and even so much as makes me feel nauseous. The most sugary thing i usually have is a really watered down Iced Tea (from sugar crystal mix ) and lots of ice. Yay!

  • I recently discovered dextrose, which is pure glucose from corn. It's great, and it doesn't stress the liver.

  • Hell Yeah Chemistry!!

  • I feel sick >.<

  • the sweetest thing I've ever eaten was sugar O.o lol I literally ate a few spoon fulls of sugar :F

  • this is why I stopped drinking Coke. To be honest, its probably been about a year and a half since I last had coke or pepsi

  • @twindwick Thanks for pointing that out. I actually read recently that if you have to use a sweetener, stick with either stevia OR pure glucose -- which is also called "dextrose".

The NOW company makes dextrose in large bags and also labels it as "corn sugar", which is not to be confused with ordinary sugar OR high-fructose corn syrup, because it contains NO fructose. Just pure glucose, which is the easiest of all for the body to metabolise.

PS: Agave has the highest fructose of all.

  • Thank you... And, yeah, I didn't know until recently that aspartame (aka Nutrasweet) is Donald Rumsfeld's creation, from back when he was the CEO of Searle. He was fanatically obsessed with getting aspartame through the FDA and onto the market so that he could be set for life, but the FDA had studied it repeatedly and consistently rejected it as unsafe.

So, when Rumsfeld's buddy Ronald Reagan became president in 1980, one of their first acts was to appoint a stooge FDA head, who approved it.
