  • he could just enjoy his millions if he wanted to and not give a shit, but he's a nice guy

  • well if the other riders are eating energy drinks, don't you think he should also eat an energy drink. and he didn't get proven to have used any drugs. the readings will show normal body chemicals produced by your immune system, and becuase every body is different sometimes these result will vary. Its just that some people believe the levels found in the blood to be suspect, when they quite rightly could have been normal.

    he's not a cheater.

    have you ever ridden a bike up a mountain?

  • looks like edwards wasn't as commited as we thought....oops

  • Yea 79-74 is quite a substantial loss! I lost less then that and improved my long distance running by HUGE chunks. As for the power, why do you find it hard to believe that people can improve to such a level??

  • Pictures show he never lost a lot of weight, and according the "study" of Dr. Edward F. Coyle (University of Texas) :

    * 11/1992 : 78,9 kg

    * 01/1993 : 76,5 kg

    * 09/1993 : 75,1 kg

    * 08/1997 : 79,5 kg

    * 09/1999 : 79,7 kg

    Lance conceded during SCA hearing that his weight at TDF was around 74kg and more!

    From 1993 to 1996, never Lance was able to maintain an average higher than 370 "Porteauleau" Watts. Then since 1999 he was able to raise 450 watts!

  • Its all very easy to say he was a cheat and on EPO, and while I would be skeptical that he is. Its not a sure thing. I dont know. YOU dont know. LA does. Thats it. If you want to speculate about with hermatocrit and VO2 and EPO thats fine. But theres more to life then this. For the record, even using echinacea can inprove erythropoitein values.

  • Look at his physique?? Theres a clear weight loss, the effects of what he has had are substantial enough. What is your definition of 25-30 percent? Of what? In terms of watts? Like a loss of body mass and build depletion while maintaining power doesnt have to be because of doping. Boxers regularly keep power moving weights. A 3 percent gain is huge, but that isnt true that it has to be because of doping. Lets look at EPO - Levels can be increased through more then just doping.

  • He never became lighter as rider, even if he had be lighter by 2or 3% that would never explain his 25-30% improvement of power!

    For world elite athlete, a 3% improvement is HUGE and very difficult to obtain! All big improvements have always been the results of doping.

  • How about looking at in terms of fibre physiology, he was young - lots of fast twitch poor endurance event results...later on more slow twitch (muscle development) and better results. Also after the cancer he was always going to be a better climber. I Myself am 62kg and naturally a good climber. His body diminished and when it was a big chunk lighter. Big improvement. It is completely possible to improve LT substantially??!! Why not? I have done myself! And anyway, its endurance not a 400m run.

  • fantastic athlete? Scientific American disagree strongly with you. go look at their June 96 edition page 47-49 : LA's lactate threshold was at a dismal 75%. Which may not be so bad for a 1-day racer, but obviously totally inadequate for a TdF winner
