Nepali Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal is making a last-ditch effort to find consensus on major issues of peace process, as his deadline for stepping down expires Saturday.

According to The Himalayan Times daily, though Mr. Khanal considered putting in proposals on moving forward peace process Friday, he decided to put his plan on hold till Saturday following the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) Chairman Prachanda's request, sources close to the prime minister and UCPN-M said.

"The prime minister has already announced about his resignation. But it's too early to say anything, he has called a meeting of top leader of the three parties tomorrow (Saturday)," said government Spokesperson and Minister for Education Gangalal Tuladhar. Sources said Khanal busied himself consulting Maoist leaders and leaders from his own party, the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist throughout the day on Friday in an attempt to find a solution. Meanwhile top leaders of the UCPN-M said their party would put forth a proposal about a UCPN-M-led government. Nonetheless, they said that there has to be consensus first.
