May 2000 and a C-130 makes a steep landing, short stop and quick take-off. This type of landing is called a Khe Sanh Approach - named after Khe Sanh in Vietnam where the area was surrounded by enemy and the planes arriving would come under attack on approach, hence the reason to stay as high up as possible and then dive.

This is the name they call it at the UK airshows I have been to. Please see Google it and you'll see others call it this too. Thanks

I'm a former 130 crewmember from the final part of Vietnam and later back in the states. I never heard it called a "Khe Sanh" landing, it was an "assault landing". The takeoff was simply called a max-effort or short field take-off. Many times the 130 would actually back up after stopping and then accellerate for the take-off.
