Kelley Kalafatich is a world class white water rafter who doubled for Meryl Streep on class 5 rapids in "The River WIld". Two years ago she developed transverse myelitis, a debilitating condition that paralyzed her from the waist down. Nonetheless, her desire to walk again is indefatigable and her spirit inspiring.

  • Just keep on going Kelley. I barely turned 26 when I went completely paralyzed on July 26th, 2008. It took me nearly one year to make it out of the wheelchair and so many doctors weren't give hope, but I eventually made it to a walker and I'm starting to take steps with a cane. I was a marathon runner btw, active in life just like you. This seems to be our biggest challenge to see how committed we are. Drop me a message if you'd like. The journey never ends.

  • Kelley is an amazing woman. I rowed my first Tuolumne River all-women trip with her, and I am amazed by her strength, love, and determination. She is a beacon of light for many people. Please send her love, strength, and support, in whatever way you can. Kelley, you are a hero to so many of us.

  • This video moves me to tears every time I watch it. Kelley's inner strength, gentle spirit and positive attitude are truly inspiring! Please help us raise funds for Kelley by joining us at a local music fest on Friday, October 23rd at 6:00pm at the Sierra Nevada House in Coloma, CA Awesome music, food, wine, beer & friends...plus a silent auction! Donation of $25 at the door.

  • If anyone can recover from this Kelley can!

I have done some white water rafting and it takes a lot of courage. Kelley I know you have what it takes.

Wishing you the best and praying for you.

  • Kelley was my swiftwater rescue instructor in 2004. She inspired me then with her knowledge, strength and kindness. I am so sad to hear about this turn of events in her life. Please send her my warmest regards. Both Shelley and I will keep her in our prayers,

    Loretta
