@Grillhorn Sure, but focused on jazz routine.
-
@jesemus33 They both spent a lot of time in the shed playing fundamentals like schlossberg, stamp, arban , clarke etc... A lot jazz players have done this as well.
-
@jesemus33 Well these guys can do it. Just give them some time to practice ;-)

@themouseofevil mm...2 octave double tonguing?....thats from hell.
-
@themouseofevil Yes but that is the function of each one, a solo performer spent hours and hours in a few measures to master that passage, and his goal is to interpret in a front of audience,an orchestral player spent a lot .... a lot of hours on Schossberg,Stamp Etc to have beautiful round sound to suport the orchestra. I love orchestral players i´m not belittle anybody.

@jesemus33 And when I made that comment (one year ago) I was in a Bud Herseth obsession (that's how I found out about Chris Martin, because he replaced Bud Herseth when he retired). I don't like it when people belittle orchestral players just because they aren't as popular as solo players. Also, solo players often show off technical abilities to wow an audience, and it gives the wrong impression that faster = better.

@jesemus33 CONTINUE....
Cathy Berberian is a good example of this, the woman is a great musician. And yes the 1st chair trumpet players have beautiful sound, Bud is a good example. Bud one tima said that his favorite jazz player was Maynard Ferguson, and that his favorite Solo player was Maurice. Please watch out your comentaries.

@themouseofevil THANK, YOU WELL SAID!.....your post said ¨In my opinion, the orchestral Trumpet players play solos better than solo players¨...I know a lot of good music believe me, not only trumpet but any period, Bach, Teleman, Pallestrina, Buxtehude, Wagner, Mahler, ETC ETC ETC.....those were great composers, each one with his personal taste, your judgment was terrible wrong. Each one has his personal taste and capability to make music.
-
A truly great musician is not out to play or compose technically difficult music - instead they are trying to create music that is MUSICAL to them and to their audience.
Musicality is a matter of opinion, but if you are judging a player's worth by whether or not they can play something extremely technical, then you are using poor judgment.

I'm sure Chris Martin could do it, then there's Rolf Smedvig, Phil Smith, Guy Few, Brian McWhorter, (and the list goes on...)
haha well it is chris martin...
