Please read before viewing:
For those of you who don't know me, I am a professional trumpet player who was afflicted with task specific focal dystonia 5 years ago.

My story can be found here:
http://brassmusician.com/focal-dystonia-cured-trumpet-embouchure-back-on-track/

Previously, it was believed (and still is by many) that Task Specific Focal Dystonia is an incurable neurological disease. This is not true. Task specific FD is a neuro-musculor condition with a root in the subconscious/emotions. It is very curable and need not take 5 years as in my case. In fact, with the right guidance, I believe task specific FD can be cured in a matter of months.

In this video I'm playing a selection of excerpts off the top of my head to show that Focal Dystonia is indeed curable. I had not even attempted to play these excerpts for many, many months (in some cases years) prior to the filming of this video. My original intention in filming this was to give myself a point of reference for post-FD practise. However, as an afterthought, I wanted to upload the video here to show task specific FD sufferers that the condition can indeed be overcome.

These excerpts are 1st takes (except for the Mahler, where there are 2 versions on the video as I was testing record levels for louder excerpts).

Please note that the idea of this video is *not* to give a definitive rendition of any particular excerpts, rather, to give proof that focal dystonia can be cured.

If you have task specific FD, or suspect you have task specific FD, feel free to get in touch. I may be able to help you cure yourself as I have done.

  • @braziltje Unfortunately, I have no suggestions for you as I am only able to help musicians with task specific focal dystonia.

  • @jongorrie hello, thank you for the quick reaction. The thing is, that I have a focal dystonia in my left hamstring. I have this for 8 years, bus 2 years ago I started to walk funny. I couldn't control it when walking. Walking backworths is no problem. So it is very weird. I went already to several specialists and nobody can help me.

  • @MrBraziltje By adopting a 2-prong strategy where I both began understanding and changing my psycho-emotional approach to playing, and at the same time retrained the body in accordance with this new strategy.

If you would like coaching to help with Task-Specific Focal Dystonia, feel free to get in touch.

    Respectfully,

    Jon

  • So how did you get to cure this?
