you can tighten up the story. You repeated the explanation at end which dilutes the joke.
To other commenters: A better explanation is the ASL idiom FUNNY ZERO means in English "It is absolutely nothing to laugh about!" Or "It is absolutely nothing funny about it!" Or "It is a very serious matter!"

the pain tolerance level of 0 means no pain at all and 10 means intolerable great pain. But it is cute to reverse the scale to fit the ASL idiom. This in itself is funny.

Funny zero in deaf sign language mean it not funny it hurt really bad like you in fire to burn yourself. really hurt so bad!
Funny mean -- LOL or happy
Zero mean -- nothing
Zero -- From rate in 1 to 10. 1 mean hurt/ pain so bad!!. 5 mean half ok hurt/ pain but still alive. 10 mean feel great no pain.
Zero is really damn hurt/ pain so bad and ready to die for sure!!!
If deaf say it Funny Zero ---- Whoa I hurt/ pain so bad I yell for help!!! Zero is more power than Funny.
