Basically what you want to do to get the best signal strength on it is to have the target object in range of multiple probes at one time who are far apart from eachother. Each probe measures the approximate distance between it and the object being scanned and it combines the information with the others to triangulate the location... well not triangulate because you actually get more than 3 probes but you get the idea.

@RapToRHouy CCP tutorials aren't going to tell you the completely correct way to do things, just give you enough knowledge to figure it out on your own. For example, have you seen their planetary interaction tutorial? You definately should never do PI exactly how they show you, but from the video you at least know whats going on.

@RapToRHouy You may not have a problem because you have high enough scanning skill. A brand new player with minimal scanning skills trained will. I have tested this, I know what I am talking about. Yes if you put down the probe strength he will see the other 4, what i was saying is he will see the 5th one sooner than if you had just used 4, either way he is going to see them. You can scan however you like, but why use 5 when you only need 4. Instead launch 8, and scan 2 sigs at once.

poor quality, if i can see, thats less questions un answered'

I like scanning, but you failed to mention how often things appear in game such as wormholes. A Tip: Tho it's risky, low sec scanning is Waaay more productive.

loose the music, where here to scan not listen to electronic shit
If I am right then the ideal situation would be to have at least 7 probes out 4 of which are spread out in a north, south east and west pattern. Two more are set out above and below the taget and then use the last two to measure from an angle off to the side above or below.

@MrAwsome514 Exactly, but as you see, the most people dont know it or wont Accept this Fact =)
But anyway, im glad a few People inclusive you know the Mechanics.

I was under the impression you can kind of confuse probes and throw off the results a bit by placing them into the signal range of another probe. All the guides I see use just 4 probes for this reason.

@Ago566 It works fine with 5 and more Probes ;-)

@RapToRHouy no, he is right, you can screw up your results by using more than 4 probes per signature. each probe has a chance for deviation. therefore, adding extra probes increases your chance for error. no reason to use more than 4 probes to lock down one sig. if you are scanning down ships, the 5th probe in the middle will also show up on their directional scanner almost instantly because its so close to them, possibly scaring off your prey before you lock them down.

@jerjud45 I had never Problems with more then 4 Probes. And as you see, CCP itself shows you how to Scan with 5 Probes, okay Scanning Down Ships can be a Reason but im extremely fast with Scanning down a Ship, so it makes no difference if he can see the Probe for 10 Seconds. And aswell if you have to put down the Probes Strength he will see the another 4 Probes aswell. So for me its not rly a Argument. But Thx for your Comment =)
