Dogs In The Vineyard (Ditv) is a RPG that has more of a story game vibe to it. It is a western game with religious and supernatural overtones. At first I thought I wouldn't like it, as the setting sounded a bit awkward, but I had an absolute blast playing it at the table. I loved the character creation, and how you can make up whatever traits you want and assign any amount of dice to them. It is a nice little book, with some black and white art inside that suits the setting well.

I ran out of time to discuss the dice mechanic in full, but it is fun. It emulates a gambling raise sort of thing. It's fun. :)

  • A game about dogma LOL

  • @neomysterio Hehe, yes I guess it is. :)

  • Nice review. You're right about the hesitation that people show when first introduced to the game. DITV is a well written game. Vincent Baker hit a bullseye when he wrote.

  • @MJGraham939 Thanks. It really is a cool game. Once you figure how the dice mechanic works, and learn how to work from words, to fisticuffs, and then to weapons, the rest of it just happens. I like its episodic feel, which I think works very nicely with the western themes. It is a fun little game, that I'm glad I own.

  • @Samwise7RPG It reminds me of the kind of shows I use to watch when I was a kid. Shows like The A-Team or Knight Rider where the protagonists would travel around, bringing justice and fixing problems one town at a time.

  • @MJGraham939 Bringing justice and fixing problems one town at a time is a good way to describe it. I like that if you ran a campaign of this, that you wouldn't have to worry about flaky players who don't show up all the time, because it is episodic where most sessions = 1 town. I guess bigger cities might take a few sessions though.

  • @DeTzardis It was a great game. A few other guys at the gaming club played it, but it just didn't fit my schedule. I plan to run Dogs several times in the coming year, at the local small gaming conventions. I hope you enjoy the game. :)

  • @Samwise7RPG

Just ordered my copy! Thanks for giving me a heads up. :)

That game you had sounds really cool btw. Exorcist Vs Paladin cowboys - how cool would that be! :)

  • @tetsubo57

You can get it from "Lumpley" games for around $29. :)
