I'm sorry, but having competed in both sport karate circuits like NBL and practiced afterward traditional karate, it's really difficult for me to watch "sportified" kata (even WKF, although at least they stick somewhat to the tradition). There are just so many things wrong, so many basic concepts absent. There's too much show, but then again, nowadays people do kata just to entertain. That's the contest, right? Candy karate, I say, without meaning offense to any particular competitor.

@tfedorchik I apologize if I offend anybody, I've just been looking at old sport martial arts kata just for a trip down memory lane, and just felt I had to say something, even if no one reads it. It's just frustrating to think I did forms like this one time (no disrespect to this competitor or any others, it's just my preference)! But to each his/her own, I suppose.

@tfedorchik Kanazawa Sensei has also come down from Japan and taught at Natalie's dojo and did not share the same thoughts you have, so makes you better than Kanazawa himself? She has also received several gold metals in Funakoshi Sensei's tournaments.

@tfedorchik what kind of league is NBL? a "SPORT" karate league! its not a traditional tournament but a "SPORT KARATE" tournament. For you to call this "Candy Karate" is just like when MMA guys say that karate is for p****. Your statements are very ignorant like those who judge other martial arts, you are no different from them. And just for your information Natalie Aquino is a 1st degree under Sensei Geng Arceo who holds a rank and SKIF.

@early415 Also, without trying to start anything else, I am not out to judge other martial arts. I guess what I meant to do was voice my frustration at how competition karate is very different from budo karate. I'm not an MMA fanboy nor do I want anything to do with that sport; in fact I love karate. I humbly wish Ms. Aquino all the best in her studies, and if her pursuits keep her in competition, then I wish her the best in that arena as well.

@early415 I apologize if I have offended. I mean no disrespect to Ms. Aquino, nor do I consider myself "better" than Kanazawa sensei nor anyone else for that matter, and I apologize if I have come off that way. However, I do not understand why one who has the opportunity to train under Kanazawa sensei would demote their kata to sport karate... it simply doesn't make sense to me. I'm sure though if she does kata in competition like in the dojo, she'd probably be better off as a martial artist.
