This shows the rather unusual circular bywash weir for Lock 6 of the Barge Canal. This weir is now (Dec 2009) "in water" for the first time in several years while dredging operations carry on.

  • The foundations of Brindleys Lobster Pot weir were found when we started restoring the Lock. It was decided to restore it and the late Chris Burton and Ian Bruce led the project. To complete it requires a wrought iron cage on top to stop rubbish entering the byewash tube.A very clever feature also seen on the Staffs and Worcs Canal.

As these were Brindleys first locks they are of considerable historical merit.
