Updated timelapse of 308 earthquakes occurred beneath Yellowstone lake from December 27th 2008 until January 2nd 2008, 21:00 UTC and shown on this page: http://www.seis.utah.edu/req2webdir/recenteqs/Maps/Yellowstone_full.html

Unlike other videos, this animation shows vertically the DEPTH of represented earthquakes. North is at the left of the screen. The maximum number of EQs displayed at the same time is 100.

Earthquakes appear to occur at northern latitudes and shallower depths as time passes.

Be warned that the earthquake view is orthogonal, there is no perspective. Smaller dots are earthquakes of smaller magnitude.

Downloadable 1280x720 XVid high quality version (this is the file I uploaded to Youtube, but I can't seem to activate the "Watch in HD" flag for this video): http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=480281

  • Nice, but it's sideways: North is to the left on your animation.

  • Well, it's already specified in the video description that North is to the left. Is it standard practice to make it point to the right in charts or scientifical animations? If yes I'll make sure to correct this in my next timelapse video.
