Oh, believe me, it's a literal war. The battle of Armageddon is the 2nd Advent of Christ. Dispensationalists attempt to separate the rapture from the 2nd Advent. But nowhere is this separation found in Scripture. They are the same event.
Upon Christ's return, all the wicked who are living will be slain by the holy angels (Mt.13:36-43). Armageddon is called, "...the battle of that great day of God Almighty.." (Rev.16:14).

but if the war is not literal then what will literally happen at the end times, peace and harmony?

Zech.12:9 is NOT speaking of the same battle as in Rev.16:16.
Rev.16 is speaking of the 2nd Advent (this is the same time the rapture occurs). The 'battle' has to do with all the wicked coming against Messiah and His angels upon the 2nd Advent. The 'kings of the east' (v.12) is referring NOT to literal nations coming against the literal nation-state of Israel, but refers to the angels which come with Jesus.
Your interpretation fails, sir.

It's not 19:7-9 but 20:7-9
Although Mr. Perry veers a bit from the popular futurist view, he still shows that he has no understanding about what 'Armageddon', and its 'battle', really means. He believes it to be a battle that takes place in a literal, middle-eastern territory. 'Armageddon' and its battle means no such thing. Richard, you are still a literalist. You don't understand how to interpret this prophecy. You are leading people astray by your fallacious interpretations once again.

I take the Bible literally and in context.
At the final battle the nations will attack Jerusalem.
Then Yahweh will destroy those nations.
Zech 12:9 "On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem."

@rkg62976 - Richard, you are still a literalist. Yes, I take Yahweh at His Word.
