DIY: How to scan your BMW

This has been discussed too many times on BMW forums, the new guys asking what to do when their service engine soon light comes on and where the port is for the scanner. Here is a very very simple video on what to do.

scanned the car, got some faults..... there isnt an actual fault code but a description of the problem, Still doesnt help.... any guide or anywhere online to go and speak about that cable.... messaged you a week ago.

@kmoncada Honestly I'm not sure, just make sure it's for the E36 as well, which it should be. It can do coding, srs lights, codes for each module, etc. I should be getting mine next week. I will make a vid once I get it.

@XionUnjust I have a 1997 328is. Just visited the link you posted to dealextreme. Will that tool (from the link) reset service warning lights? From looks of it, this diagnostic tool does everything the Peake Research tool and more!

@tspirit99 Yes, this will tell you codes by SPECIFIC modules on the car, you can check airbag lights, clear them, do coding such as alarm, drl, window up, etc. BUT be VERY careful with what you do. Here is the link hopefully it will show

@XionUnjust Please tell me the name... does it read and dsiplay up to date codes? tbh i dont really want to know the code, i want the machine to tell me exactly what the problem is! have have traction control and tyre pressure fault on dash board.... i dont know why. Please help me out, i really need to buy a diagnostic machine asap.

QUESTION ISSSS..... Actron or peake? i have a 2004 bmw e46...... Please someone tell me if actron does the job because i love its layout... screen ect...
