We needed to be sure that our two Maine Coon-cross cats, Clementine ("Mrr") and Sage, would be safe if they fell into our wading pool. Mrr had started jumping up to walk along the rim of the pool. Sage is more cautious, but it seemed only a matter of time before one or both cats got into the pool. A friend of mine had two kittens drown in a bathtub, and my dad always made sure our dogs and cats knew how to get out of his in-ground swimming pool. We wanted to be sure our cats would be safe even when we were not around. After discussing various options, including a pool cover and/or a rescue ladder, we decided to just see what happened when we put the cat in the pool on purpose. Could he self-rescue? YES! He got out with NO trouble. We were very relieved.

  • awww poor kitty kat!

  • @817blueangel I know, he wasn't happy, but we needed to know if he'd be safe around our pool. He got some cat food as a treat right after the swim.
