@bobindehmix If UN troops can go into Congo or into other south African nations to keep the peace and protect civilians, they certainly can go into Libya and do the same, right? Is it not in the UN Charter to protect innocent people from brutal dictators? Am I wrong?

the annoying thing is that people see the actions of some UN personal as those of all the UN. just because unprofessional armies like the pakistani army are involved in disgusting things under the UN beret, doesnt mean that all the other armies are the same. its this primative judgement of the UN that caused this occurance, and also occurances in which irish soldiers were attacked because of the actions of other nations soldiers... see 'siege of jadotville' and 'niemba ambush' on wikipedia

When Laurent Nkunda attacked the city of Bukavu, the Uruguayan MONUC troops that were protecting it refused to fight and let Nkunda's forces rampage through the city leading to a sharp increase in killings. That event led to many of the riots.
