Watch in high quality! This is some classic footage of Latrobe's very first 4th of July parade shot on silent 8mm film (2 reels). The parade went right down my street (Irving Ave, 4th ward) and ended up at the Latrobe stadium. The film was shot by my Father from our front sidewalk on a Kodak hand held 8mm camera. This is the first time the film has been viewed in over 30 years. Yes...that's me at the end..Lol :)

  • CORRECTION.>>>>>THIS FOOTAGE IS FROM 1970!!! The movie reels are marked "1969", But this footage is actually from "1970"

    My mistake ;)

  • WOW! From between Ligonier and Jefferson streets on Irving Avenue. I see the, now demolished and replaced, Dell (now Frederick) Funeral Home and the gas station, still standing, at the top of Irving Avenue. The parade was going toward the stadium on Irving Avenue; it now goes in the opposite direction, now starting and stopping at Memorial Stadium. This is before my time, but fun nonetheless.

  • @glhswccc Hello, glhswccc. You know my old neighborhood well! I spent many hours playing in the parking lot of Dell's Funeral Home :) This was the only year the parade went down Irving Ave. From 1970 and on..the parade went in the opposite direction.

I have the first four parades on 8mm film, I hope to transfer the films to digital video in the future. I will post them when I can.

I'm happy you enjoyed the film!

    Thanks for the comment :)
