Through the use of special effects we retrace the 15-billion-year journey from the big bang to the present. We also hear the tragic story of the martyrdom of Hypatia, the woman scientist of ancient Alexandria. This is the famous episode on nuclear war in which Dr. Sagan argues that our responsibility for survival is owed not just to ourselves, but also to the cosmos, ancient and vast, from which we spring.

  • @Jcorp67 idiot, it was tim bernard lee at cern that invented the internet. stop being a dumb faggot.

  • @yogagoya19 it was just a glitch in the data in the file the user uploaded. It's in the original. stop with your looney conspiracy theories.

  • Natural harmony immediately awaits. All we need to do is renounce hatred, history, fear, fear and... fear. Big prizes await...

  • Let's live in harmony and argument, not kill ourselves. Other civilisations await our realisation of our potentials. Great things await us if we chose the true course...

  • The best part about watching this series again is seeing how far we've come and how far we have yet to go. We averted the danger of protracted nuclear war but we still haven't shaken off the crippling nationalism and chauvinism that brought us so close to it. Some day, perhaps.

  • @projectbrumaire Because once they're there, they're always going to be there.

Not only is nobody who has them going to give them up, but others will continue to seek them due to the power they bestow on countries in international relations. Thinking that they'll ever be gone takes no account of political realities.

Obama etc. preaching about a "nuclear-free world" is mere rhetoric; as nice as it would be, it will never happen.

  • @selatik1 Everyone could and should be a scientist in the like of Sagan. We don't need Carl Sagan back and thinking like that ignores his message. The whole point of this series is appeal the methods of science to the wider public, to encourage a shift in society toward embracing a more accurate view of itself... We got to be responsible for ourselves regardless of whether we have courageous, hero-scientist on the scene or not. Why 30 years since this has came out, are Nukes still around?!?

  • youre a reptile

  • why doesnt he say afghanistan at 1:45? who cut that out?
