I'm 36 years old. My two sons will both be getting Heelys for Christmas this year. Heelys look like a lot of fun, so I decided to get myself a pair and learn how to heel before Christmas. I can then help them learn how, and then keep up with them when they're heeling around a store or wherever.

In this video, I'm managing to get between 5 and 15 feet at a time. I've practiced in short bursts for a total of about an hour at this point. As a grown adult who doesn't skate (ice, roller, board, or otherwise), I can tell you that Heelys are HARD! It takes a lot of lower leg strength to keep your toes up and torso strength to maintain your balance. I'll be practicing a little at a time to build these strengths and skills to hopefully avoid injury, such as shin splints. Some specific exercises should be able to help as well, such as walking on my heels, or simply flexing and pointing my feet for counts of ten a lot.

I think I'm making good progress (you should have seen me a couple days ago ;-), and I think that if I keep practicing, I'll be heeling around as well as can be expected. I'll upload another video when there's any noticeable progress, such as decent steering control.
