THE 30-YEAR-OLD TYPE 80 MBT IS COMPARABLE TO TODAY'S JAPANESE TYPE 90. The Type 80 main battle tank (MBT) was the most powerful tank of its time and today it still remains as among the most effective and powerful tanks in the world. It was designed and developed by the First Inner Mongolia Machinery Factory and Norinco. Armed with a world-class powerful Type 83 105 mm rifled gun (with autoloader), the Type 80 possess some of the greatest firepower in the world. The Type 80 is equipped with Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) and additional armor add-ons, making it among the most protected tanks in history. The powerful 730-horsepower engine can propel the Type 80 at over 60 km/hr over ranges of more than 600 km. The Type 80's digital computer systems are among the best in the world. The Type 80 is so advanced for its time that it has been compared and scored successfully against the modern Japanese Type 90 tank.

The even more powerful Type 88 tank was developed from the Type 80 MBT.

- Speed: 60+ km/hr
- Range: over 600 km

  • thankyou! this is a very handsome video!...i enjoy to spy on red chinese tanks and honestly enjoy your highly artistically filmed videos.../ m-60a3tts company commander @ milwaukee

  • You're very welcome.

    I'll be posting China's next-generation tank (CSU-152) video.

It's supposed to succeed the Type 99 as the world's most powerful tank, so that might be something you wanna look at.

  • if china ever sells this,,how much u think it'l cost?(the type88A)?

  • A million a piece?

  • Ok, but since Bofors deal, no 155m artillery has been inducted for 20 years. All Indian defence blogs I read, are fuming over failure to buy new ones or upgrade existing ones. The US, Russia etc make good artillary, but you have to relise making artillary guns is not rocket science, cheaper to make own and importantly artillary tech is not rapidly evolving, unlike fighter jet tech. Guns designed and made in 1980, will be just as accurate as guns made and designed in 2000.

  • honestly this video captures why armor (tanks) is far more fun than low crawling in the cold wet mud with the light infantry...id rather die very quickly in a tank if hit than very slowly in a mudhole.../ @ milwaukee

  • The problem china has is by the time it issues new equipment to such a large army the tech is becoming obsolete. Thats why it only equips certain divisions at a time,

  • can the type 80 fire on the move dose it have thermal imiging sights

  • Your spelling is terrible.

The truth is that since the 1970s, we are designing and developing our own weaponry.

  • hahahah a last you except the truth ..........

  • Yes, you should know that. We are developing. Copying ended in 1960.
