  • Thanks for the video! Really fascinating stuff!! I was looking around for info on preparing cocoons for spinning and came across this. What do you do with your cocoons? Now I'm starting to wonder about starting our own little silk worm farm...

  • @Treetale i throw them out.

  • thanks julius from Detroit Mi my name charles peace!

  • @SCENARIOBABY mulberry farms. com.....everything u can ever want

  • Quick question. I have my silkworms in a container right now with a 75 watt lightbulb on them, it seems like that light is drying up my mulberry chow rather quickley, I have about 25 large worms in there and ive gone through a half pound of chow in a day. Also, how often should I be removing the silkworm poop? they do poop a lot. Thanks for the help.

  • bright light is never good for caterpillars. Try a heating mat next time....and lower the temps to not dry out the chow.

  • Hi, i need some help, i have eggs now, the silkworm butterfly just did it...how many days till the worms born?how can i speed up the process? i need to feed my dragon.thx

  • 1. Chrysalis and cocoon are not interchangeable terms. 2. The larva inside the cocoon does not eat the silk and spit it back out! The silk is made from protein and is held in the salivary glands and excreted when they spit it out. The silk solidifies on contact with the air and a thin strand is created. 3. The liquid they "throw up" does not even come from the mouth. It is secreted by the abdomen and contains enzymes that break down the silk to all them to push through the silk wall.

  • @JuliusTheDragon Silkworms do infact molt. They molt four times as they grow through their 5 different stages of larval life, or instars, and must molt inbetween each stage. Most of their skin does allow them to change in volume continuously but it reaches a limit once stretched too far. Their head capsule and legs are made of the same hardened material as other arthropods and these things do not change size until the larva has molted.

  • @ubbecykelkedja The adult moths do not eat their way out of the cocoon. They release enzymes which break down the silk fibers and push through the weakened area of the cocoon wall.
