He would have easily won the Automotive X-Prize, but as the conditions for the contest were slanted towards electrics he ended up having to withdraw. Sad day that was when I learned what happened!

I would rather eat my hair than drive around in that thing. I mean it's a cool idea and an amazing achievement, but at what cost? I dunno, I just don't like it, but it's just me.

If you recall - they updated the moteur from a Smartcar 600CC diesel - of course they would take the gearbox mated to this engine as it makes engineering easier - this is more about weight and drag lessons - with current mechanics high mileage can be achieved - cool to see - the 80's was a groovy time - give it time - am sure the next version headlamps will be integrated into nose or fender wings covered in plexi like the tail lamps
