Professor Lord Winston opens the Benenden Fertility Centre

The leading scientist and fertility expert, Lord Winston officially opened the new Fertility Centre at Benenden Hospital in June this year.

Well known for his work in the fertility field and for several successful TV programmes on different aspects of science, Lord Winston performed the opening just weeks after the Centre's first two babies were born. He is also Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, where he runs a research programme in the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology,

The Benenden Fertility Centre is located within the grounds of Benenden Hospital near Cranbrook and represents a significant investment by the Hospital Trust.

Mohamed Hefni, Consultant Gynaecologist and Director of the Benenden Fertility Centre said:

"It was a great honour to have Lord Winston officially open the Centre. His past work and research in relation to reproductive medicine, particularly in the field of IVF, has had a direct bearing on the treatment and services we are able to offer patients today."

Benenden Fertility Centre began offering IVF-related treatments to couples in the spring of 2010, and in February and March of 2011 the Centre's first two babies were born following treatment for the parents. Both babies and their parents attended the Centre's official opening.

There is an exceptional team in place at the new Fertility Centre, where they work in state-of-the-art facilities to hopefully help couples achieve a healthy pregnancy.
