Yeah, Tommy Boy records has gold and platinum records, but they had lots of airplay on mainstream radio in the 80's and 90's during the hip hop and Freestyle Era. Their music is barely aired or none at all on mainstream.
this guys an asshat. If he is boasting about naughty by nature, queen latifa, and everlast.....lol. pack up shop and head on back home if they were the last gold albums your company has gotten. stfu.
internet radio people are listen to the music, We the webcasters are the ones buying the music from Mr. Silvermans record label so people can hear their music. We are not offering people to download the music, but giving the opion to the listers to buy the songs that they are listen to by clicking on Buy Now next to the player.
Disgust and nausea is all I can feel having heard the corporate-line comments by Silverman, Fink and Lee. Could they have expressed themselves any better as illogical sycophants to the corrupt US music business that destroys diversity and promotes parasitism of artists for the sake of lining executive's pockets?
Parts 2, 3 and 4 of my comments can be found after video #9 and at the end of this series.
Listen to the sound of fear. Smart artists are avoiding guys like Tommy altogether, courting alternative ways of exposure to the public (like internet radio), and releasing product themselves. Even though Tommy Boy is only 25 years old, it represents the very worst of old line thinking. Change with the times, Mr. Silverman, and quit trying to destroy what you obviously don't understand.
The bottom line here is how will music be paid for in the future. I can see why Silverman is worried: his way of life as a middleman is coming to an end and he is going to fight with every thing he has got to keep what he has got. In the near future, perhaps labels like Display Records, who are adapting to the changing times to use Internet radio, will take his business away?
So, without all these damn artists around demanding their money, Tommy Boy would make a profit? That's the gist I got. Well, SoundExchange makes sure labels get their money, even if artists don't. No wonder this guy likes that arrangement. I wonder how many rap artists are still out the money they thought they were going to get paid from this shyster in the 1980s...
The back bone of Tommy Boy was Arthur Baker and J Robie...

Tommy Boy Records has been owned by Warner Brothers since the late 80's. Hardly a small business label!
