A preserved steam train in 2004.
The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland has operated steam-hauled trains to Portrush in the summer since 1973. It is the best-known of all their regular events, and a highly popular family day out.
The 2007 Portrush Flyers were cancelled at short notice due to timetabling problems. Track improvements since then have eased the problem and four years later the Prtrush Flyer is finally back all the way to Portrush.
In 2011 steam will return to Portrush on three dates in June and July.

Apart from of course No. 4, another train that would be suitable for Portrush excursions is the 80 Class multiple units. Those DEMUs have an ambience with their English Electric 'Thumper' engines and it would be kind of nostalgic to those who travelled on them to Portrush all the time back in the 80's. I'd like to see one of those units preserved and running on the line to Portrush again.

@MachaFilmStudios In 2010, The Flyer is back! (Though not along the 6miles to Portrush from Coleraine - passengers will travel by Diesel DMU)

That was excellent. I have never been on the Flyer but you gave me a good indication of what to expect. Thanks for the posting.
