my friends african grey roars so loud when anyone (including my friend the owner) goes near his cage. He roars so loud and stays roaring or until you move away. I mean like REALLY LOUD, when he roars neighbors a block away call us up...
I think he's broken?

As I wonder if something is wrong with our Grey, he never growls. He just flips out and flies away.

not all birds are alike. the growl is very common in Grey's. but not something they have to do to be normal. you just haven't found anything that really makes him mad, or scared.

If they are hurting them selves, you should remove it. You can put it near the cage, for a while so they can get use to it. Maybe move it closer and closer every few days. Until they stop being afraid. My grey hated the color red at one point. But she got over it in time.

ha ha ,,,,,your bird growls like it was dragged out of tree in africa shoved in a box ,,shipped over here then sold to you!!!
try buying a 12 week old bird and pet him at least an hour or two a day,,,,,he will be putty in your hands,,like mine hehe

she is only doing this because she is afraid of that new toy. otherwise she is a very friendly bird.

Tangalo rarely growls but for some reason she did not like the doll I was holding. The sound is so interesting I had to get it on tape but I have never shown her that toy again, it was obviously upsetting her.
I hope this helps! Good luck
