@Tony07UK your totally correct - it all started with stock aitkin waterman bringing out instrumental B sides , and all the tracks sounding the same - manufactured shite ... luckily i stopped deejaying in 1993 at the end of the manchester scene , the last great genre of youth music

Possibly true .. but look at the variety of music and quality of the chart hits compared to today.
Dire Straits, Spandau Ballet, Bruce Hornsby & The Range, Enya, ... there was something for everybody. Today's hi-tech studio prefabricated rubbish video/music is forgotten in weeks. There are no talented bands that can actually sing and play instruments. This generation thinks all music originates from Simon Cowell's a*se + Pop Idol, X-Factor cr*p!
