Keith Fiala shows you a quick way you can test if you are pinching when you go for the higher notes on trumpet. This is one of the most common problems in playing... don't let it stop you!

  • I'm thinking about buying a second hand trumpet, but it has scratches on the valves 1 2 and 3 What do you think?

  • @pecas20101 Do the scratches affect the way the valves work? If not - perhaps bargain with the seller a bit more.

  • I'm gonna try your advice. Thanks man! That's a beautiful horn by the way. Exactly how I want mine. What kinda horn is that?

  • @PalabraViva3 It's the Austin Winds Stage 470LT. Just minimize movement, and you'll have no choice but to use your air vs. your chops.

  • @kfiala01 once you master this technique what happens if you use your lips aswell.... do you end up somewhere in the atmosphere :P

  • @gjvkvkrhvkas Hmmm, my guess is that if you use your lips as well you could end up on a stretcher passed out. Just a guess though. :-)

  • Thanks for the advice!!! It surely cleared my tone while playing scales and helped me while hiting high notes. Practice makes prefect!

  • This is excellent advice. Finding that warming up on pedal tones helps me relax my embouchure so i don't draw down on the aperture...and my mid-range notes are sounding a little fuller and stronger as a result up to about a high D or so. When I do accend to around high E, thats when I think I'm starting to pull in a little....but it seems my embochure changes a little anyway ..I start to lift my horn a little higher and put slightly more pressure over my upper lip at about a high D or E.
